Well Womens Guide to Beauty Tips ,Tricks and Ideas

36 Beauty Tricks and ideas (for now!!)

1. Steam your face once a week with hot water and a few drops of lavender oil to rid your skin of toxins

2. Shaping your eyebrows takes years off you. Use a pencil or light powder to shade in and define. Brows that are too pale leave a face looking bland, too hard a line and it’s Groucho Marks!! Go lightly. You don’t want to look like a china doll!!

3. The less products you use on your face, the better your skin. Use of night creams, loading on products and foundations, especially those containing chemicals, ruins your skin and causes whiteheads, blackheads and excess oil. Also your skin cant eliminate toxins as it can't breathe, therefore you end up with loads of open pores as you skin battles to breathe and eliminate toxins. You end up with oil pouring through your carefully made up face.

4. Over 40? Less is more. Applying too much make up makes you look older and over use of mascara can make you look like a drag queen!! Spiky clogged lashes red lips and rosy doll cheeks? Yughhh! We've all been there!!!

5. Natural and organic skincare products improve your complexion and are more anti ageing than products containing chemicals. You only need a cleanser, a flower water or MSM beauty spray and a moisturiser.

6. You can take years off yourself just by using food state supplements and beauty minerals. These, such as MSM and organic silicon for example, smooth your complexion helping to eliminate wrinkles. Anti ageing is best when done from the inside out.

7. If your hair is beyond repair, use a treatment (natural without chemicals!) every day instead of once a week to restore condition. Also, try using an “overnight” treatment once a week. You can get natural organic leave in conditioners too. They are not just reserved for the big brand names. Go to Love Lula the organic apothecary and see their range of natural and/or organic hair care products that contain no nasty or dangerous chemicals.

8. Never squeeze spots and whiteheads. Instead, sterilise a fine needle (hold over flame, and rinse to cool down) and gently and carefully pierce to remove sebum or pus. This avoids scarring. Sounds brutal? So is squeezing and picking as they bring it up in a huger lump!! Use a spot gel such as pure tea tree or aloe vera gel afterwards. It will sink in and help clear it up a lot quicker.

9. Use of organic sanitary products like towels, panty liners and tampons cuts down on irritation and candida. Bio Fem acti gel is natural and used regularly together with acidophilus tablets, should help correct the out of balance yeast growth. Use it straight after sex too to cut down on the possibility of irritations from friction. Then twice a day, two to three times a week, especially at night (It is working while you sleep)Please see the candida page on nav bar) However, you need to cut down on too much sugar too as this aggravates it. Detox every so often to cleanse your system.

10. Use of natural progesterone seems to melt away the years too and improve complexion and facial hair (in time, no immediate results) When your hormones are in balance, you look better and younger.

11. Once you start thyroid treatment, your nails (and hair) will gradually get stronger so don’t despair. It takes time though. (sometimes more than a year) MSM crytals or powder will help with this when used daily. Add around a teaspoon to a glass of water, but don't overdo MSM as it is also a detoxifyer and you may end up with pain in the location of your kidneys if you take too much too soon. Build up slowly and if the amount you are using is too aggressive, cut back to a level that is comfortable. Always take MSM in water early in the morning and no later than midday. Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins.

12. Regular Evening primrose oil, Rosa Mosqueta, Flaxseed Oil Hemp seed oil and coconut oil and Omega 3 fish oils benefit your hair and skin….Big time.!

13.MSM improves your skin if you are prone to spots. It is a sulphur product which is anti inflammatory and great for your skin. Helps acne brilliantly.

14. Too much exfoliation causes whiteheads due to friction on skin. I thought it got rid of them. It actually makes them worse.

15. Drinking lots of water really does make you look younger as it corrects dehydration and plumps up skin so fine lines and wrinkles appear a lot less. Dehydration ages you and accentuates wrinkles. Like a dried up prune. Think of flowers without fresh water.

16. Wear sunscreen every day in sunny weather and especially in the summer. Use a natural one of course!! Why? Well, if everyone wore it from birth, wrinkles would be a thing of the past. Take a look at the inside of your arm which gets less sun and then look at the other side. The difference is amazing. No age spots on the inside, but plenty on the outside!! Once again Love Lula the organic apothecary has a range of natural products for use in the sun and Lavera do some 100 per cent natural ones.

17. Lip pencil should be the same colour or slightly lighter than your lipstick or it looks false and “doll like” and drawn in. If you have thin lips, it makes them look thinner as it draws attention to it.

18. Blusher applied like a stripe looks ageing and doll like. A soft rose or peach looks right and only on the apples of cheeks and slightly towards ears. Black and asian skins are the only type that can wear a stronger colour and look natural. However some of these darker skins need a light touch too. You want to look natural not like a clown. Nvey organic cosmetics are a good choice and their blushers are lovely.

19. If you hair is not maintained, the rest of you won’t look right either. Look after your hair as much as you would you skin or clothes. It really is your crowning glory! Eliminate dried up straw. Get it cut every 6 weeks and use natural hair products and hair colour such as Tints of Nature, Logona or Naturetint as they are much much better for your hair and system. Tints of nature also do a gentler highlighting kit too.

20.To minimise the risk of toxic chemicals in hair dyes, Dr Paula Baillie-Hamilton (author of a book called the Detox Diet) recommends topping up your supplements with an extra 1000mg Vitamin C, 400IU of Vitamin E and 3000mg of psyllium husks about half an hour before colouring your hair and then another 500mg Vitamin C as soon as possible afterwards. Makes sense to protect yourself from the potential dangers by increasing antioxidants in your system. Also, the scalp is like a sponge and will soak up the chemicals in hair dye. The vitamins will help neutralise the sudden increase in free radicals and the soluble fibre of the psyllium husks will absorb them and then carry them out of the body.

21. Bear in mind that your skin eyes and hair reflect what you put into your body. If you eat healthily and take supplements and superfoods and avoid chemicals as much as possible, this will reflect in your appearance. If you smoke, drink and eat junk food and no supplements, don’t expect to look a picture of health. Believe me, I’ve been there and was once Queen of Clarins, Clinique and Estee Lauder and countless others. Simplify your routine. You really don't need all those products and they tell you to use countless face creams so that you will spend the money and no other reason. You don't need night cream as your skin needs to breathe and eliminate toxins at night. A flower water or MSM beauty spray by Raw Gaia is enough at night.

22. Avocado is a great food for hair and skin as is coconut oil (both internally and topically).

23. You can buy safer nail varnish. See Natural Collection who do a water based range by Suncoat

24. For interesting facts about hair removal go to Hairfacts Very important warnings here too. Often the humble razor, is best. Think of the chemicals in hair removal products and what they are doing to you!!

25. The Pill and HRT contribute more to cellulite (and aging) than anything else. Think Natural Progesterone!!! Oestrogen promotes cellulite. Also try Barefoot botanicals Rosa Fina body conditioning lotion.

26. A quick fix for eyes? Try The Organic Pharmacy Double Rose Herbal Eye Serum.

27. A quick way to enliven and plump up lips is to scrub with a toothbrush and they feel tingly afterwards and are nice and red too. (not surprisingly)

28. Good short term spot treatments include The Organic Pharmacy Spot Gel, Dr Hauschka Inner cosmetic capsules, The Organic Pharmacy complete Acne Kit (Holistic internal and external treatment)

29. Throw out any clothes that you have not worn for a long time. If you haven’t worn them for more than eight months, you never will. Gives you more space and you can see what to wear instead of ploughing your way through loads of rubbish to find one thing that’s right. Better a small well planned wardrobe than one full of junk. Belive me, mine is sparse!!! Black trousers, wide legged trousers, jeans, couple of skirts, t shirts jumpers, but a lot of jackets and shirts. Mainly in plain colours (Due to having scoliosis I have loads of lovely jackets in all different styles that make every outfit look different.)

Also, try making your own!! Clare and me have started making our own pretty, simple, straight and A-line summer skirts in feminine floaty fabrics we love. I am not brilliant at sewing but simple skirts are easy to make and fit you better in the long run.

30. Too much sleep is as bad as too little and can make you look and feel awful (mega eye bags). Aim for 8-9 hours. Set regular hours to go to bed and get up again. If you have an autoimmune disease have small naps and rests during the day. (over two hours will leave you feeling groggy too)

31. Don’t give up. Supplements and treatments need time to start taking effect, but do eventually (3-4 months) Give it time (many just give up after the first bottle) and use high quality food statesupplements and or superfoods not cheap supermarket ones which also contain additives.(defeats the object really) and are synthetic. Natural progesterone may work instantly for you or take longer. Patience. If it makes you feel worse, give it about three months. It can sometimes make you feel worse to start. Best to take a home menopause test to see if you need it in the first place. Read Doctor Lee’s site and NPIS (See my menopause page) to educate yourself in the options.

32. Aloe Vera gel kept in fridge in very soothing for razor rash in the bikini area and I rarely get this now. In fact pure, 100 per cent natural organic Aloe Vera Gel is brilliant for lots of things including sunburn, reducing red blotches, spots, as a moisturiser, for dry legs and spotty legs and as a soothinbg treatment after plucking or waxing eyebrows, a completely non oil facial moisturiser, candida itching relief and many other skincare problems.

33. Make your own fragrance using essential oils and save yoursef from chemicals

35. Please Click Here to go to the Natural Anti-aging page

36. Beauty also comes from within and there are many alternative supplements and superfoods to help you achieve this.

Please go to the Beauty Minerals page for information about minerals guaranteed to improve you complexion in no time at all. Also, Please Click Here to go to the Minerals and Special Powders page

We are all basically the same and perhaps knowing that we all get up to the same awful tricks and practices may help. I once had a bikini wax and would never do it again as I came up in boils!! Very glam in the swimming cozzy!!

Investigating and experimenting myself all the time for your benefit (and my own!!). Check back for more ideas regularly. Contact me about anything at all. If I can help, I will.
