Well Women Guide to Herbal and Green Teas

Herbal teas are a pleasure worth having. It can be relaxing and sleep inducing, invigorating and stimulating, detoxing or just plain pleasure.

There is a vast array of flavours, some herbal, some floral some fruity and some a combination.

With so much choice there is bound to be one or more that become your firm favourite. Most are caffeine free and are beneficial to health and by replacing some, or all, of your caffeine consumption as well as being hydrating. The Green ones contain caffeine unless otherwise stated but their high level of antioxidants outweighs this. The Herbal varieties do not contain caffeine with the exception of “Chai”

The best way to enjoy them is loose. (Not in a bag) and you will need a proper strainer (infuser). They can be sweetened to taste, but use organic honey for health benefits instead of sugar!!!

The following certified organic beverages, from Mountain Rose Herbs, are fabulous as well as being beneficial to your health. They are of exceptional quality and contain only fresh, colourful organic and aromatic ingredients.

The Green range is high in anti-oxidants and therefore has numerous health benefits. Most of them are also fair trade. Although not caffeine free, it's anti-oxidant benefit outweighs this and is therefore by incorporating it into your diet will boost your immune system.

The Herbal range is hand crafted, loose leaf and economical and are guaranteed free of pesticde residues and other harmful chemicals.

My Favourites?

Well, I like so many of them, it is hard to specifically recommend one. The ones below are my main favourites.

Chamomile, Blossoms of Health, Citrus, Dream, Echinacea and Roots, Evening Repose, Hibiscus High, Lemon, Mint, Peace, Winter Spice and Women’s Balancing Blend. Herbal

Read the descriptions of the teas. They sound so wonderful and have medicinal benefits.

Infusion: Made from leaves flowers and light materials. Put 1-2 teaspoons into brewing utensil of your choice and place in a 6-8oz cup. Add lightly boiled water and allow to "steep" for 3-5 minutes. For a greater "medicinal" effect, steep for 15-30 mins. Can be refridgerated for 24 hours.

Decoction: Made from Bark, roots, seeds, twigs and berries. Put 1-3 tablespoons into a pot with 16-32oz of non boiled water and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes. Set on the stove and bring to a slow boil then turn down to a simmer for 10-30 mins. Strain and drink. Most decoctions can also by brewed in a single cup as the infusion method above, but without the strength. Will keep for 72 hours refridgerated.
