Well Women Guide to Progesterone and How it can help you

Oestrogen and Progesterone are female hormones and affect our femininity mainly because deficiency causes many symptoms such as vaginal dryness, low libido, hot flushes, mood swings, tender breasts, depression, irritability, panic attacks and anxiety, weight gain etc. Oestrogen can become dominent and progesterone levels decline and this out of balance situation affects our day to day lives.

The Asyra machine identified that I had a deficiency of progesterone and I had not used progesterone cream for about a year, mainly because I take so many supplements and powders and superfoods that I felt quite bad ordering so many things, but at what cost to myself?

At the moment I am suffering with hot flushes and they are quite severe especially at night.

It stands to reason that if I am indeed deficient in progesterone, then my health will suffer.

I have decided to address this as part of the treatment protocol and it is one of the things Dr Peatfield also recommends.

When I used it before, it did indeed get rid of hot flushes. But mine came back after about a year. Hot flushes can actually be bcaused by other things such as liver toxicity and adrenal fatigue. Remember that sex hormones are also produced by the adrenal glands.

When we have endocrine issues, many hormones can be out of balance including progesterone, DHEA, oestrogen, cortisol, aldosterone as well as of course thyroid hormones.

It is a fine line between excess and deficiency and really can be quite hard to get it right.

It is not just a matter of balancing one hormone and that is where the problem lies. We sometimes cant tell which ones are out of balance and just when we think we have cracked it, another one needs attention.

There is a lot to think about. Many glands produces hormones and enzymes. I think that is where Chris's Asyra machine came into its own because it could identify where the imbalance lay.

Progesterone, in the form of Natural Bio identical transdermal cream can be a solution to the out of balance situation and oestrogen dominance. There are many out there on the market and I have used Serenity by Wellsprings with a lot of success and also other creams with less success. Dr Peatfield seems to recommend Serenity as well as Dame Shirley Bond in her clinic.

Doctor John Lee, the pioneer of natural bio-identical progesterone had been advising on this topic for many years prior to his death and he had been using it in his clinics with astounding results.

It has particular success with PMS and PMT, as well as menopausal symptoms and consistent use has seen many symptoms start to drop off in 2-4 weeks with a complete erradication of symptoms disappearing in around 3 to 4 months in many women.

Osteoporosis is also a problem of dwindling female hormones and in a study in the U.S, it was found that the use of natural progesterone cream actually increased bone density by an average of 8% in the first year, 4% in the second year and 2% in subsequent years.

Doctors in general practice do not use it because it is not a pharmaceutical drug, but a natural product. It is not beneficial to them to use it and if you have PMT, or menopausal symptoms, more often than not you will be prescribed dangerous HRT therapy which often makes symptoms worse or if it improves them, it is at a risk to your health in other ways ( female specific cancer)

In the normal healthy woman's cycle, oestrogen levels are at their highest in the first two weeks, then drop off to be replaced by progesterone for the final two weeks of the cycle.

Progesterone production can be antagonised by our diet and the use of synthetic birth control pills as well as animals in industrialised countries, especially the U.S., being routinely fed synthetic hormones and eating grain and grasses that are full of pesticides. Modern farming methods and pollution of our environment has a lot to do with why we suffer with many illness not seen 50 years ago. Some of these illnesses are also not seen in less developed countries than ours, so we pay a price for living in a part of the world which is seen to be so wealthy yet suffers because technology and rising to such high standards are in many ways to the detriment of those living there.

We pay the ultimate price for using products which also cause oestrogen dominance, yet we ignore this and continue to destroy ourselves further for the price of beauty and ultra clean homes.

We can use products that are just as good and benefit our health and the cleanliness of our homes without putting ourselves, our families and our pets at risk.

These synthetic compounds are also concentrated in the fat of the meat and dairy products sold commercially. Additionally, synthetic hormones sold by prescription and a wide variety of petrochemical compounds are also consumed by women. These chemical compounds are referred to as xeno-oestrogens or xeno-biotics and have been shown to interfere with the production and utilization of natural progesterone.

What are Xeno-Oestrogens?

Meat poultry and game that is not free range or organic contains foreign oestrogens that interferes with human production of hormones. Prescription medication such as the contraceptive pill and HRT is the same because it is synthetic and therefore not the same as the hormones produced by the body naturally.

Oestrogen becomes dominant when progesterone levels fail to rise to the required level in the final two weeks of a womans cycle. Oestrogen becomes unopposed for the whole month causing this dominance.

Symptoms of PMT and menopause, osteopososis and infertility are actually caused by oestrogen dominance, so we can see how supplementing with progesterone would correct this.

We need to find a way of balancing the oestrogen/progesterone hormones effectively and safely since synthetic progesterone available on prescription has been shown to be dangerous. Also, nature did not intend for progesterone to be swallowed into our stomach where it can be intercepted by the liver where it can prove to be an additional burden. The less stress put on the liver in the form of toxins, (and synthetic hormones would be perceived to be toxins) the better.

Wild yam was once though to have a component (diosgenin) that converted into progesterone in the body. This has been proved to be incorrect and while wild yam has certain health benefits, supply of progesterone is not one of them.

Only supplemental Natural Progesterone has been demonstrated to increase serum and saliva progesterone levels in women, a fact that is verified by ample clinical and published scientific research.

Natural progesterone is bio identical, meaning that it is identical to the hormone produced by our body without synthetics. It should not be confused with wild yam.

Doctor Lee states that it benefits women from teenage to their 90's!!!
