Well Women's Do's and Dont's of the Immune System

There are many immune system disruptors and many of these can trigger autoimmune disease.

Here is a list of possible causes:

Vitamin D deficiency and other nutritional deficiencies, including EFA’s, Vitamin A and certain amino acids.

Oestrogens (Estrogens)

Food additives and aspartame Chemicals like fluoride, chlorine, petrochemicals etc

Stress and viruses

Chemicals in cigarettes (Give up smoking as the chemicals are disrupting your immune system)

Vaccines

Pesticides in food which contribute towards oestrogen dominance.

Statins (drugs for lowering cholesterol)

What can help Autoimmune Disease

Do not use fluoride toothpaste

Reduce consumption of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, peanuts

Diet low in fat but high in Omega 3

Drinking plenty of water (2 litres a day) to flush toxins from the body

Completely cutting out refined sugar and artificial sweeteners

Increasing fibre and wholefoods. When increasing fibre, do it gradually to give your gut time to adjust. Be consistant however. Just increasing your intake of fruit and vegetables will increase your fibre intake also. 20-30grams of fibre are needed per day for optimum nutrition.

Reduce whole milk intake and use skimmed milk.

DHEA supplements (15-75mg a day for 3-6 weeks to restore depleted levels)

To prevent accelerated aging of the skin which is a feature of autoimmune diseases, a diet high in fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking 2 litres of water to prevent oxidative stress. Supplements of glucosamine, minerals, antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E, B complex, 10mg combination of K1 and K2, vitamin D, zinc, copper, manganese, magnesium, coQ10, the plant bioflavenoid Quercetin, acetyl-l-carthinine, 1000mg carnosine, omega 3, green tea extract, and 200-500mg of alpha lipoic acid. 100-200mg selenium.

Ensure any supplements are soy and gluten free.

Replace chemicals in cleaning products with more natural ones

There are too many chemical in todays domestic cleaning products. I actually became very ill with a flare up two years ago after washing my shower room and bathroom walls down with bleach. The next day I had a flare up that lasted for weeks. Another time I painted our bedroom and was ill afterwards. Autoimmune sufferers should not expose themselves to toxic chemicals….EVER.

Avoiding processed foods, artifical sweeteners, refined sugar, and saturated fats, monosodium glutamate and articfical flavourings and colourings.

Get 8 to 9 hours sleep.

Avoid eating the same food every day as this can cause food allergies.

Avoiding anti biotics and medications where possible other than those required for your condition.

Reduce industrial and environmental pollutants.

Ensure skincare products including shampoo’s soaps and body lotions are organic and do not contain petrochemicals. (I became ill with a huge flare up after my husband massaged baby oil over my back….just think, we are using this on our babies so what chance have they got?)
