Well-Women Guide to Food Alternatives

How Can we eat decent food in this mordern world?
With so much pressure on us to eat healthily, how can we achieve this with ease?
It is said that we have destroyed our body with artifical additives and things that the body can't cope with. So many foods now contain a huge list of suspicious ingredients, and some are really sinister. Evidence suggests that a simpler diet is best and there is now much evidence that raw is best. We are bombarded with this information, often aquiring an obsession with food as a result.
What is really comfortable to live with?
Well that is a matter of choice. Who am I to say? Many of you may want to give converting to raw a try while some won't entertain the idea. Some feel upset and guilty because they are being told that food they have eaten for years can damage them.
Follow your intuition
I myself, can not convert to totally raw. However, I can do some raw days. I don't put myself under pressure, nor my family. What is the point?
My advice here is to completely eliminate anything artificial from your diet in as much as you can. This to me is a no no.
Stop eating ready-meals. Evidence suggests that our health has deteriorated since their advent.
I now make my own cakes, biscuits and sweets using organic products where possible so I know what goes into them.
I buy organic fruit and vegetables and free range/organic meat and only eat meat about 3 times a week.
Many supermarkets now do organic ranges, but beware in case artificial sweetners, preservatives etc are also in them, although in most cases, they are ok. READ YOUR LABELS

Enjoy fresh fruit smoothies - Blend with fresh semi or skimmed organic milk. Also smoothies, unlike juices, contain all the fibre of the original fruit because they are prepared in a blender
Add fruit to your cereal
Eat dried fruit instead of biscuits or chocolate when you feel like a sweet treat.
Have banana on toast instead of jam
Add salad to sandwiches
Use raw vegetable sticks or grated vegetables as a snack instead of crisps
Add vegetables to soups, stews and pasta dishes
What else can I do to ensure a healthy nutritious diet
Our favourite snacks are generally the most missed. We long for chocolate, crisps and other "fixes" that provide comfort and help us through the day in between meals.
What can we do instead?
Dried fruit is a good substitute such as Goji berries, raisins apricots and some of the organic dried fruit mixes you can buy in the supermarkets and The Food Doctor make some fabulous healthy snack bars, though not all are organic, they are cetainly better than the snacks we are used to. They also make healthy cereal bars and seed snacks as well as Omega rich foods and Perfect start cereals These are sold in many supermarkets such as Sainsbury's, but if you have trouble finding them, they are also available to buy from The Food Doctors website
You can also buy Cacao which is pure raw organic chocolate. This should enable you to satisfy your chocolate cravings!!!
Shazzie also makes her own
Gillian McKeith also has a range of snack bars, as well as a living food vitamin C bar , Goji Berry Bar, Cacao Bar as well as many other items in a whole range of health products. These are also available in many health food stores and some supermarkets.
I must say I love the sound of these Goji Bursts as well as Energy Bombs and Bliss Bombs
You can also make your own snack bars
What is a good sugar substitute?
Take a look at all these sugar substitures, Perfect Sweet xylitol is 100 per cent natural sugar substitute and really is the best to have come out in a long time. Another alternative is Stevia, but this is banned in the UK and Europe although you can get it from this website
What about biscuit substitutes?
This is hard as biscuits are not really part of a healthy diet, but if you make your own using organic ingedients and substiture sugar for Perfect Sweet or other safe substitute, you are minimising health risks so long as you don't gorge on them all the time and use them sensibly for occasional treats. It is hard to find healthy fats that can be used in baking although coconut oil can be used.
What about Fat sustitutes?
100 per cent raw Coconut oil/butter is a good substitute and can be used in baking. Organic extra virgin Olive Oil is a healthy oil.
Take a look at this website to see other oils and their uses
What about salt alternatives?
Too much salt is bad for us and we all know that. What can we use instead? Try Celtic Sea Salt
Is there a healthy alternative to crisps?
Snapz Apple Crisps may well satisfy the craving. They are not fried or baked, but dehydrated at low temperatures instead. They contain no salt and only natural sugars as well as no artificial additives.
Also, try Eat Me fruit Crisps
